How to Manage Your Recruitment Process During Coronavirus Outbreak 2020

COVID-19 (Coronavirus) has implications across the globe in regards to how companies, schools, businesses and individuals are approaching their day-to-day operations. It is just everywhere already; the signs have created a panic situation and it has convinced us that we need to reserve hand sanitizer, face masks and dried or canned foods for at least next 5 years.

Many start-ups & MNC’s like Infosys, TCS etc. have closed physical offices and instructed employees to work from home. Events and professional conferences have been cancelled or postponed; The WHO is encouraging the public practice “social distancing” to avoid spreading the virus.

This sparks the questions of how will it impact hiring and what is the best way to continue the job interview process during social distancing?

Data reveals a 19% decrease in applications in January 2020 as compared to January 2019 and a 47% reduction in applications in February 2020 compared with February 2019 & the numbers are still worsening in March.

Of course it will, the fact is, recruitment is an industry that often necessitates face-to-face interaction. This certainly shows that jobseekers are unwilling to enter the process, perhaps to a desire to stay in the security of their current job in uncertain times and concerns over the face-to-face nature of the recruiting process.

How to Continue the Job Interview Process during the Coronavirus Outbreak?

We at kretaro have already shifted most of our customers to virtual (Zoom/Skype) video interviews this week. In a few cases we received pushback but after brief discussions, clients understood the importance of continuing to move quickly and a willingness to hire credible professionals via videoconference has been widely accepted.

The number of credible professionals’ fitment checks by the employers before scheduling an interview has increased, which shows the cautious movement by the employers.

Also, professionals now don’t apply to every other job which they used to do, for getting shortlisted for interviews even for the companies where they wouldn’t fit. They check their job fitment as well as company fitment before applying.

Statistics show that professionals prefer first round communication via video/telephonic Interviews, as candidates are often able to fit telephone or video conference interviews into their schedules at much shorter notice than a face to face meeting & they need not have to travel. And now during Coronavirus disease pandemonium you’re probably experiencing delays in the typical process, so the need of hour are Video Interviews.
Global tech giants and some of the world’s most prolific employers — Google, Amazon, Facebook and LinkedIn — said that they were moving job interviews online, following the escalation of the coronavirus outbreak.

As an employer, there are a few things you can do to put in Coronavirus recruitment policy

  • Conducting a professionals fitment check for a position in your company even before engaging with them on kretaro.
  • Conducting initial stages interviews via video conferencing.
  • Plan to postpone the schedule of Face to Face interview or ensure precautions before meeting like having hand sanitizer in the room and both party make use of it, given the current climate, neither party is going to be offended.

Like any prior hiring obstacle you may have experienced, the key is to remain in control over what you can control. So be in control of the steps that you take – virus or no virus.

Unfortunately, it doesn’t look like the coronavirus is going away any time soon, which is why you want to make sure you’re prepared for both your health and career!
